We use the term Aboriginal to respectfully represent all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. DCJ acknowledges all Aboriginal Nations as the Traditional Custodians and original inhabitants of the lands now known as NSW.
We pay respect to the Traditional Custodians throughout NSW. We extend our respects to all Elders past and present, and to Stolen Generations Survivors and their descendants. We celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal peoples and their ongoing cultures and connections to the lands and waters of NSW.
We're working with Aboriginal communities across NSW to deliver community-led programs. Keep up to date with what we’re doing to make real change.
The NSW Government and the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO) have jointly launched the NSW Closing the Gap Implementation Plan 2025-2028. This plan sets the next phase of action to achieve our Closing the Gap commitments and it's supported by $206 million in new funding. Learn more and read the new Plan.
Some Aboriginal families come into contact with DCJ at more than one point through their life. We are co-designing culturally safe services with staff and community to make it easier for all families to navigate government systems and break the cycle of contact.
